Clayton County Historic Preservation Commission’s mission statement is “To promote the preservation of the history of Clayton County. The Clayton County group functions best as a central contact for other local historic preservation groups and as a facilitator of historic education.”
One of our goals is to put the present into perspective by understanding the past. We meet the 2nd Friday of the month at the Clayton County Development Group Office at 200 E.Bridge Street, Elkader at 9:00 AM. Our current( 2015) commission has members from Garnavillo, McGregor, Elkader, Strawberry Point, and Littleport and Guttenberg and welcomes any Clayton County resident who has an interest in history. Our current project is the restoration of the Clayton County courthouse clock tower.
